Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are used to smooth out lines and wrinkles and are placed underneath the skin via injections. These have been used for facial rejuvenation for many years with great results and are extremely safe. Dr. Edwin Ishoo only uses FDA approved, highly save, non-permanent dermal fillers.
As your skin ages the collagen and underlying suppor structure begins to weaken and degrade. This occurs most often around the lips, chin, cheeks, under the eyes, at the corners of the mouth and in the area between your nose and mouth. Dermal fillers help to alleviate these problems by adding to and supporting the underlying structure.
There are a wide variety of dermal fillers of different types, each with unique benefits and results, often designated for specific areas of the face. This includes human collagen, hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, and even a patient's own fat (via autologous fat transfer). Some fillers last longer than others, or a combination of different fillers may be used for best results. Dr. Ishoo will formulate a personalized treatment based on your goals, desired results, mecial history, and recommend which dermal fillers are right for you. This includes:
- Restylane®
- Juvederm®
- Artefill®
Facial wrinkles are either static or dynamic. Static wrinkles are caused by a combination of time, loss of skin elasticity, and gravity. These are typically located in the lower third of the face, such as nasolabial folds (the ones from your nose to the corners of your lips), marionette lines (which extend from the corner of the lips to chin), and the pre-jowl sulcus. These wrinkles are treated with dermal "fillers ". For information about dynamic wrinkles, such as crows feet, glabellar lines, and forehead wrinkles, see our page on Botox®.
Risks or Concerns
We only use FDA approved dermal fillers that have been in use for years to ensure that these treatments are extremely safe. This allows clients to confidently select a facial enhancement that will provide a more youthful, smooth, and natural look. Risks are rare, but as with any time the surface of the skin is pierced there is the possibility of hematoma or blood pooling beneath the skin, infection, necrosis (tissue death), or skin loss. This advanced enhancement works to provide a smooth, natural look and feel. An unsatisfactory outcome is also a risk, but with any cosmetic procedure the results can not be guaranteed.
